Alzheimer’s Association supports the Longest Day 2016

The Alzheimer’s Association recognizes June 20, 2016 as The Longest Day (of the year) by inviting everyone to engage in an activity of choice to bring awareness to Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Individuals, corporations, book clubs, faith-based organizations come together in real-time or virtually to help raise funds to support research and programs.

Preferred Living Solutions Aging Life Care® Managers will mark this year’s Longest Day by visiting assisted living and memory care facilities in the local community (Wake County, NC and surrounding counties) to deliver handwritten “thinking of you” greeting cards, adult coloring books and colored markers.

Over 5 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia. At this time there is no cure for this devastating epidemic. One in 3 seniors dies from this disease. It is the 6th leading cause of death in the US, killing more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

The toll on family caregivers is tremendous. In 2015 more than 15 million caregivers spent 18.1 billion hours providing care and support.
