Our Story
Michael Stickney & Melanie Mattingly
Michael and Melanie met while working at Community Partnerships. In fact, it was Melanie who hired Michael right out of college. It turns out they both had a heart for serving their community. It wasn’t until Melanie had to navigate the fragmented path of finding, selecting, and supervising reliable support for her family members that she saw an unmet need. They both realized that the senior population and their families lacked the support needed, and Preferred Living Solutions was created.
Melanie founded Preferred Living Solutions with Michael as her partner in 2008. Melanie knew she wanted to share the knowledge she had gained through her own experience. Both Michael and Melanie’s previous work in the disability service arena, paired with their personal experience, brought great insight into supporting families facing similar challenges.
While Melanie was the managing partner for many years, Michael provided his support in marketing for The Living Prepared Workbook and oversaw ordering materials, assembling, and shipping. Six years ago, Michael stepped into his role as a care manager and performed other managerial duties to support Melanie as a managing partner. Michael and Melanie worked together to implement the policies and procedures and create the work culture we now have at Preferred Living Solutions.
16 years ago, Melanie and Michael started this company believing that people needed advocacy and assistance locating needed resources to live happily and healthy in a living situation of their choosing. Now that Michael is the sole owner, our goal at Preferred Living Solutions remains as firmly as when Melanie was the managing partner. That is, to provide a service that respects individual and family dynamics and preferences while securing the most incredible quality of life possible for seniors and people with disabilities.
