Make Life Easier for Your Loved Ones
I recently spoke with a friend whose parents have both died within 6 months of each other. She had just settled the affairs for one when the other one passed. She was overwhelmed with grief and the checklist of paperwork and phone calls that would have to be made. Death is unavoidable, but making a plan for after the fact shouldn’t be avoided. Just as my friend was trying to navigate through it all, your loved ones will be trying to navigate funeral plans and paperwork to settle your affairs while grieving. There are a few things you can have in writing to make things easier for them.
This list is an excerpt taken from The Living Prepared Workbook‘s “End of Life Planning” section.
- Where in your home to find info about your prepaid funeral or cemetery plots
- Information needed for the death certificate (like DOB of parents of the deceased, etc.)
- Funeral service requests
- Where to find info for obituary or pre-written obituary
- Locate original last Will and Testament to file with the county
- What accounts you have and how to contact them to notify them of your passing (Life insurance, monthly bills, etc)
- Notify the local county Clerk of Estate office and follow their instructions
