Adult children are excellent family caregivers. They are skilled at multi-tasking and juggling many balls at once. Even super-family caregivers need help sometimes making plans or difficult decisions for aging parents.
Our care managers at Preferred Living Solutions partner with amazing adult children. The adult children work hard to make informed decisions about their parent’s care and well-being. With care managers on the care team, they know that their mom and dad have additional advocates helping to watch over their living environment, daily personal care, nutrition, and medical care and that they are treated with respect and dignity. When emergencies happen, and the parents are separated (medical appointments, EMS calls/transport, hospitalizations) or if the adult child is sick, our care managers can step to the plate. We stay up to date on Mom’s and Dad’s medication changes, medical conditions, siblings’ contact information, and copies of essential documents in hand, there to help with the overwhelm.
So this month, especially on February 21st, we’d like to speak directly to the caregivers for “National Caregiver’s Day.”
This day is for you, be it family caregiver, health caregiver, or emotional or physical support caregiver. You give so much time and effort to care for your loved ones or patients. We hope you can take some time today or this month to do something for yourself, something you enjoy doing. You need to take care of yourself to remain healthy for yourself and your loved ones. Don’t put off your yearly well checks, rest, or good eating habits. Each of these things contributes to your long-term health. If you find yourself struggling, find a care manager to become part of the care team and lighten your load. It’s what we do.
