Summer activities are fun for children and older adults, too. Whether seniors live independently or with assistance, having fun should be on the agenda. Independent seniors may enjoy church activities, eat meals with others, or maintain any interest they have pursued their entire lives. Encourage seniors to stay active. Staying active socially and physically allows people to live longer, more fulfilled lives. Seniors living with assistance may have more obstacles to overcome to stay active and have fun, but summer can still be enjoyed!

Here are just a few ideas to enjoy this summer season:

  1. Going for a swim in your community pool or at a local recreation center
  2. Walking is a great activity that does not cost a dime
  3. Volunteering at a place that you have always been interested in
  4. Gardening and planting flowers
  5. Group activities such as book clubs, bus trips, etc.

Summer is a great time to be active!

As this summer season starts, take some time to reflect on your time spent in Spring and what you hope to enjoy this summer. Set some new goals for yourself and start doing them today. Don’t forget to protect yourself from the sun with a hat, lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and lots of hydration. If it’s too hot, invite a friend to see a movie with you. Many theaters have lower-cost summer movies during the day, and you’ll hear the giggles of children enjoying the movie along with you.

Whatever you decide to do for fun this summer, invite a friend along, it’s good for you!
